At In Step we feature classes for all ages in a huge range of styles. We currently use two very different syllabi, BBO (British Ballet Organization) and BBDS (Broken Beat Dance Syllabus). These are taught by a range of teachers both Male and Female. For a list of In Step's current teachers click here.
Classical Ballet
Ballet technique has developed over the centuries from formal dances at court, which were little more than very elegant walking, to what we see today .Ballet is such a wonderful art form, full of beauty and grace. It helps with deportment and coordination. Students from Primary Grade upwards will learn barre work with exercises that have been developed to give their mind and body the right preparation for centre work (work in the centre of the studio) and eventually on stage. Exams are conducted once or twice a year and though not compulsory does give the student a goal to work towards.
The BBO (British Ballet Organization), is a member of the Council for Dance Education and Training UK (CDET) and is also registered with the Australian Council for Dance Education and Training. The council’s objectives are:
To maintain and improve the standard of dance education and training at all levels throughout the country to represent those with responsibilities for dance in the private sector,
To advise, co-operate with and make representation to Government departments local authorities and other bodies on all matters concerned with dance education and training,
To provide an information service covering all aspects of dance and teacher training.

Tap has been around a long time, and reached its peak during the 1930s 40s to mid 50s most of its popularity was due to Fred Astair, and also to Eleanor Powell who revolutionized tap with her innovative toe and heel style of footwork. Tap is another style which also has an adult class, with In Step's Fakes Follies Tap Troupe. All are welcome and there's always room to join in.

Pre-Kindi
Pre-Kindi classes are half an hour long, which is long enough for little ones to concentrate. The Pre-Kindi class is a fun class, with a mixture of song actions. Stretching, characterization and tap. This leads the children on to the Pre-Syllabus class a more structured class which is based on natural movements —walking—running —skipping—hoping—jumping. Children may take a test in this with an examiner, (not compulsory for this grade) and then move onto Pre-Primary which is a little more disciplined and technical. All of which benefits the children's bodies, their coordination. muscle tone, and flexibility, also their musicality and rhythm.
